PoE (Power over Ethernet), also known as "Power over Ethernet", is a technology that can provide power to network devices through network cables. PoE technology can transmit both electrical and data signals simultaneously, eliminating the need for additional power cables for devices. The principle of PoE technology is to add a DC power supply to the Ethernet cable, allowing network devices to be directly powered through the network cable.
Differences between PoE switches and regular switches
The biggest difference between PoE switches and regular switches is whether they support PoE technology. Ordinary switches can only transmit data signals and cannot provide power to devices. And PoE switches can transmit power and data signals together to network devices, providing power supply for the devices. Ordinary switches require the use of additional power adapters or cables to provide power supply.
PoE switches can provide power supply to devices that support PoE technology, such as IP phones, network cameras, wireless access points, etc. Ordinary switches cannot provide power for these devices.
Due to the PoE switch's ability to power devices, there is no need for additional power adapters or cables, thereby saving equipment costs and reducing cabling costs.
Four application ranges of PoE switches
A. Home applications
PoE switches can provide power to various devices in the home network, such as wireless routers, network cameras, IP phones, etc., making the home network more intelligent and convenient.
B. Commercial applications
In commercial applications, PoE switches can power various devices that support PoE technology, such as network cameras, wireless access points, electronic signage, etc. These devices usually need to be installed in high or difficult to replace locations, so using PoE technology can greatly simplify installation and maintenance work.
C. Industrial applications
In industrial applications, PoE switches can provide power to various industrial equipment, such as industrial cameras, sensors, controllers, etc. These devices typically require long-term operation and high reliability, so using PoE technology can reduce failure rates and maintenance costs.
D. Public facilities
In public facilities, PoE switches can provide power to various intelligent devices, such as smart lighting fixtures, smart door locks, smart billboards, etc. These devices are distributed across a wide range of areas, and using PoE technology can simplify wiring and installation work.
